Visitor Information for the Redoubt Fortress

The Redoubt offers a fantastic value day out with FREE entry to the parade ground and gun platforms, plus great offers on entry fees to the military museum. Book group visits in advance or buy tickets online. Plus get one FREE return visit this year with every ticket purchased!

Free Entry to the Parade Ground

Explore the parade ground and gun platforms for free, with great sea views from the cannons. Have your photo taken guarding a sentry box, try out the Military Training Ground in August and pop into the gift shop or café for a vintage style tea.

Buy Tickets

Tickets can be purchased on arrival at the museum entrance.

If you prefer, tickets can also be purchased in advance by telephoning 01323 410300. Simply pay using a debit card and pick up your tickets on the day.

Reduced admission rates are also available by joining the Friends of the Redoubt.


Daily Tour

Daily tours of the Redoubt Fortress

Join the daily tour to hear some of the stories behind the fascinating collections, from local military heroes to how words like ‘balaclava’ became part of our language.

Tours run at 11am and 2.30pm each day lasting 30 minutes from the museum entrance and are included free with museum admission. Longer tours run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays lasting one hour.


For the Kids

Children's workshops at the RedoubtFrom dressing up in military costumes to quizzes and fun-filled Hands on History events, there will be plenty to keep younger visitors enthralled.

The Outpost

The Outpost cafe

This exciting vintage styled café is the perfect place to enjoy something tasty. Will you have a Corporal Croissant or Bombardier Brownie with your Colonel Coffee? Pick up a loyalty card to save stamps for a FREE hot drink!

Don’t forget you can pop into the Café without visiting the Museum!


Getting to the Redoubt

Redoubt Fortress seafront entrance

Located by the beach, why not pop in through the main seafront entrance while you stroll the promenade to explore the parade ground, or from Royal Parade cross the moat with direct access to the gun platform.



Accessibility of the Redoubt Fortress

Due to the nature of the building, there is a large number of stairs in places and a stairclimber is available for wheelchair users when booked in advance.  On street parking is also available on Royal Parade.

The Redoubt welcomes group visits and can arrange a free 10 minute introductory talk for groups of 10 or more. Admission prices for groups of 10+ cost Adults £4, Senior/Student £2.75, Child £2.
