The Redoubt Fortress and The Pavilion are both ideally located next to one another on Eastbourne seafront.  Both venues can be accessed from Royal Parade or from the promenade.

The Redoubt offers a fantastic value day out with FREE entry to the parade ground and gun platform.

Located next to the Redoubt, The Pavilion offers a free exhibition and cafe with terrace and gardens.

Kids Offer: Visit the exhibition and take a trail to gain free entry to the Redoubt museum (one child free per full paying adult).

Free Stuff to See and Do

Explore the The Pavilion exhibition and Redoubt Fortress parade ground and gun platform for free, with great sea views from the cannons. Have your photo taken guarding a sentry box and pop into the gift shop or café for a vintage style tea.

Buy tickets in advance online or by telephoning 01323 410300 or in person at either the Redoubt or Tourist Information Centre.

Alternatively purchase on the day at the Redoubt museum entrance.

 
 

Daily Tour at the Redoubt Fortress

Daily tours of the Redoubt Fortress

Join the daily tour at the Redoubt Fortress to hear some of the secrets of the fortress and stories behind the fascinating collections, from local military heroes to how words like ‘balaclava’ became part of our language.

Tours run at 11am and 2.30pm each day lasting 30 minutes from the museum entrance and are included free with museum admission. Longer tours run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays lasting one hour.

From dressing up in military costumes to quizzes and fun-filled family events, there will be plenty to keep younger visitors enthralled at both venues.

Look out for Bronze Age Day in July, Fossil making and our free summer activities in the parade ground.

Getting Here

Redoubt Fortress seafront entrance

Via Prom

Located by the beach, why not pop in through the main seafront entrance while you stroll the promenade to explore The Pavilion gardens and the Redoubt's parade ground.  

Via Royal Parade

Pavilion entrance is located next to zebra crossing. Redoubt Fortress entrance from here crosses the moat with direct access to the gun platform.  Please note there are a large number of steps from here to the Parade Ground.

 

Accessibility

Accessibility of the Redoubt Fortress

The Pavilion offers wheelchair access into the cafe and exhibition and disabled toilets.

Due to the nature of the Redoubt Fortress building, there are a large number of stairs in places and a stairclimber from the prom entrance is available for wheelchair users when booked 48 hours in advance.  

On street parking is also available on Royal Parade.
