Redoubt: Unlocking The Story of Eastbourne

Summerdown Camp Cook House

The Redoubt, Eastbourne’s most significant Georgian building and a scheduled Ancient Monument will be restored, renewed and for the first time become truly accessible. This project will create a totally new entrance in the Pavilion with a lift to provide access to the fortress for all. It will repair the building, preserving it for future generations and create the venue for a new museum for Eastbourne.

This project will provide a lasting legacy for a magnificent and unique 200 year old landmark. It will present, within those walls, an engaging, exciting and accessible interpretive journey through the history of Eastbourne. The town’s nationally important collections will form the catalyst for the telling of incredible human stories that have been waiting to be shared and for someone to share them.

The project will transform the Redoubt from relative obscurity into a sustainable, compelling heritage attraction that will prove of significant benefit to the local community, schools, colleges and visitors to the Town.
