The Queen's Royal Irish Hussars Regimental Collection

The Queen's Royal Irish Hussars advancing along the Basra Road

The Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars were formed from the amalgamation of the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars and the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars in 1958. The Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars Collection, first opened in 1988 follows the History of both the 4th and 8th. The ties with Sussex began when both the 4th and 8th Hussars were based at Lewes and Brighton respectively.

The collection charts their history from the Charge of the Light Brigade, through the conversion from horse to tank and on to the Gulf War. The Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars Collection is the newest of the three housed at the Redoubt Fortress and continues to grow.
