Redoubt Fortress and Military Museum

The Military Museum of Sussex at the Redoubt

A view of The Royal Sussex medal room

By 1977 the Redoubt had been converted into a living museum housing the Sussex Combined Services Collection of artefacts from all three branches of the military. In 1983 The Royal Sussex Regimental Collection was moved from its base in Chichester to the Fortress and today makes up the largest of the three collections. 1988 saw The Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars Regimental Collection added to the Redoubt.

Today the Military Museum of Sussex housed in the Redoubt Fortress is the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in the South of England. Included amongst the displays are a German Staff Car captured during the 2nd World War, a replica of a camp used by the Irish Hussars during the 1st Gulf War and the museums armoury.
