War Stories

(23 April - 15 May)

Jade Marczynski is a recent graduate in Textile Crafts from Huddersfield University, specialising in Hand Embroidery. Her delicate embroideries of images and quotes from memories are inspired by the experiences of those who have survived the Second World War ranging from from soldiers who worked abroad to women working in towards the war effort

Children at War

(3 April - 20 May)
An exhibition by local artist Clare Hackney examining the effects of warfare, both conventional and gang related, on children globally. By exploring many themes from the National Curriculum focussing on Children’s Rights, the artist hopes to engage with an audience of all ages.

Eric Ravilious - Artist at War

(29 May - 7 November)
Eric Ravilious (1903-1942) was born in Eastbourne and trained at the Royal College of Art before becoming one of the most respected and admired artists of his era. This exhibition explores his thought-provoking work between the years of 1939 when he was commissioned as a War Artist and 1942 when he tragically died whilst on active service in Iceland.

Prisoner of War

4 July - 8 November

Artist Aubrey Davidston Houston of The Royal Sussex Regiment was captured in 1940. This exhibition is an insight into his life through the work he produced in captivity.

Captured German Soldiers In World War One

Quebec

August - 8 November

To mark the 250th anniversary of The Battle of Quebec and the role that The 35th of Foot (Royal Sussex) Regiment played in this historic victory which helped to create modern Canada.
